Q&A | Hortense Durupty

It's awesome having two French women back-to-back on the blog this week. Yesterday a rally car racer, today a Parisian jewelry designer! Hortense's eponymous jewelry line is sold in L.A. (where she currently resides) at one of my favorite stores, OK on W. 3rd, as well at Steven Alan and many many other boutiques around the globe that serve as beacons of chicness. I love Hortense's simplicity and minimalism—especially the gold stud earrings and the nylon cord bracelets. Check out the Hortense Jewelry website for the full line (prices range from $46 for the cord bracelets to $1,015 for a pair of triangular diamond earrings). Send her an email (chatnoirefr@yahoo.fr) and mention Tomboy Style to receive a 15% discount on your order!

If not in LA, I would live in…Paris.

My dream holiday would be to…Le Cap Ferret where my dad bought a house many years ago. It is in France, not too far from Bordeaux.

My current obsessions are...our daughter Lola, designing new jewelry (I am working on a new collection of rings), cooking nice things at home like broccolis with caramelized onions over a bowl of rice, my new pair of boots from A.P.C., and shopping at Steven Alan and Mohawk General Store.

I channel my childhood self when I...am with my daughter.

The fictional characters I most relate to are…Miss Piggy with her pearl necklace.

If I had to be outdoors all day I would...on a beach called "Le Mimbeau" in Le Cap Ferret.

My favorite quality in a man is…kindness and humor.

My favorite quality in a woman is…same.

I'm terrified of...being in front of not warm people.

My dream car is a...1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL.

My cocktail of choice is…I don't really drink cocktails, only champagne.

My celebrity crush isChristoph Waltz.

My beauty product of choice is…Almond Glow and unscented skin lotion.

My friends and I like to…go to nice restaurants and laugh about old souvenirs and memories.

If I could go back in time for one decade it would be...the 1930s.

As a teenager I was totally into…jewelry already. I've spent 30 years of my life in Paris and at the age of 12 I already loved to spend my time on Place Vendôme where all the biggest jewelers are.

I tend to splurge on…jewelry :).

I like to wear very simple, natural, and basic clothes—like a pair of jeans and a nice shirt or tee shirt with one piece of jewelry and a nice watch, and that…is what makes me have Tomboy Style.
